Work to begin on Pioneer Highway Sewer Main Project

Closures will take place 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday for approximately four weeks. Please be prepared for detours and delays.


Triangle Drive- Closures to begin on approximately April 8.  The road will be closed from Pioneer Highway to Cedarhome Drive.

Pioneer Highway- Closures to begin on approximately April 12. The road will be closed from 267th (fire station)  southeast to 77th at the entrance of Fox Hill Estates.

272nd St NW- Crews will be grinding  272nd between Pioneer Hwy and 83rd. Grinding will take place on April 12th. Grading will take place on April 14th.

  • Local Access will be maintained for residents
  • Sidewalks will not be affected on Pioneer Highway

Water Line Flushing
  • Public Works will be hydrant flushing Monday-Thursday 7:30 to 3:30 through May. 

  • Hydrant flushing signs will be posted in the affected areas the day prior.

  • During flushing, customers will experience lower water pressures. 

  • It is recommended to limit water use during flushing to prevent bringing discolored water to your faucets.



Roadside Maintenance

We would like to remind citizens that periodically, vegetation management takes place along roadsides on public right-of-ways. During the summer, this maintenance increases.

Please note: Inside the city limits, this maintenance is performed by WSDOT, Snohomish County and the City of Stanwood. Any maintenance outside the city limits is performed by WSDOT or Snohomish County. We appreciate the patience and respect shown to our employees and those of the other entities.

2020 City of Stanwood Improvement Projects

The City of Stanwood will be undertaking projects in 2020 that continue its commitment to invest in improvements that make our community safer and enhance our quality of life. While the Stanwood City Council adopts a long-term multiyear capital improvement plan, the projects below are planned for the upcoming year and may be part of a multi-year project that has already started or is starting in 2020. The start and end dates are estimates, as weather may contribute to a delay or extension of the project timeline. Alternate routes are offered for residents, businesses, and visitors to consider to lessen the impacts of the construction season. We appreciate your patience as we work!

1. Main Lift Station Upgrades 
Description: Improvements to the main sewer lift station and force main under SR 532.
    Start Date: June 30 End Date: December 31 Alternate Route: 271st Street

2. 276th Repaving and ADA Improvements
Description: Grind and overlay of asphalt from 80th Avenue NW to 73rd Avenue NW. Also includes upgrade of
ADA ramps at various intersections and striping.
    Start Date: July 5 End Date: October 31 Alternate Route: 272nd Street, 284th Street

3. SR 532 & 72nd Ave Intersection Striping
Description: Pedestrian safety project that includes enhanced striping, new signage, and an electronic,
illuminated sign that will alert drivers to pedestrians at this wide intersection
    Start Date: June 24, 2019 End Date: August 31, 2020

4. Water Reservoir at 7620 278th Place
Description: Remove an older concrete reservoir and construct a new, 1.5 million gallon steel reservoir. Also
includes a new pad for an emergency generator.
    Start Date: July 31, 2019 End Date: September 30, 2020

5. 90th Avenue NW/Viking Way Improvements
Description: Re-construct 90th Avenue NW from 271st Street to Viking Way and construct Viking Way from the
existing terminus at Petco to 88th Avenue NW. Includes full road, sidewalks, street lights and landscaping.
    Start Date: May 1 End Date: December 31 Alternate Route: 272nd Street

6. SR 532 Flood Berm and Port Susan Trail – Phase I
Description: Construct a flood berm with a paved bicycle/pedestrian path on top. This is a section of the master
loop trail in downtown Stanwood that includes landscaping, benches, art, and hand rail.
    Start Date: March 1 End Date: July 31 Alternate Route: None

7. Irvine Slough Storm Water Separation – Phase 1
Description: Retrofit the existing pump station at the mouth of Irvine Slough to add an additional pump and
separation wall from Irvine Slough. Add piping across Irvine Slough to the North to connect to the existing storm
system from SR 532.
    Start Date: July 31 End Date: December 31 Alternate Route: None

8. Decommission Fure Well and Bryant Well #2
Description: Decommission of 2 wells that have not been used for several years.
    Start Date: July 1 End Date: September 31 Alternate Route: None
