The Stanwood Police Detective works in conjunction with patrol deputies using the resources of the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office to investigate a broad range of felony and misdemeanor level crimes. These investigations can involve weeks of follow-up to include the collection of video, writing and serving search warrants and conducting interviews. Although the victims of crime live within the boundaries of the City of Stanwood, in many instances the suspects are located in other jurisdictions. Cultivating relationships with law enforcement agencies in other jurisdictions is an important resource to effectively investigate cases. Investigations that satisfy charging standard requirements are referred to the Snohomish County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

In addition to investigative duties, the Detective position is also tasked with some teaching and public speaking engagements. These events are an opportunity to present current information to the citizens of our community to assist in addressing our shared goal of crime prevention.

The Stanwood Detective position offers a unique opportunity to work in a variety of investigative fields. Working with specialty units associated with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office offers a unique perspective, valuable training and insight into how some more complex and specialized investigations are conducted. Applying this training and experience can lead to an increased solvability rate and bring successful resolution to many cases which would not typically be investigated if referred to an overburdened specialty investigations unit.

Having a detective assigned to the Stanwood Police Department allows for increased communication with crime victims and more thorough investigations in a shorter period of time than would be experienced by a citizen living in a jurisdiction of a larger law enforcement agency.
